Chris Christie The RINO: First In A Series

The swooning by Republicans over the prospect of Chris Christie running for the GOP nomination for President continues. He's been the lead vote getter in straw polls. Conservative voices such as Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and Laura Ingraham have blindly sung his praises for what Christie has said, completely overlooking the absence of any substantial accomplishments.

This is the start of a specific point by point study of Chris Christie in order to provide a wake up call for Republicans and, more importantly, Conservatives.

Christie Fact #1

Candidate Chris Christie stated that if a foreigner sneaks across the border, that's not a crime.

This was a response to a question at a forum hosted by a New Jersey church with a heavy Hispanic attendance. This was the second and lesser noted statement from that event. Christie also said that being present in the country illegally isn't a crime. He was actually right in that matter. After news stories and people like Lou Dobbs went after Christie for that, his campaign staff issued a statement explaining that Christie was correct and how it reflected America's lax immigration laws.

That brings us to a big BUT. (That's But. NOT Butt)

But Camp Christie never corrected his misstatement about how the action of crossing the border illegally isn't a crime. "Improper entry by an alien" as it is called, is a violation of Title 8 of the U.S. criminal code punishable by a fine of between $50 and $250 and/or a maximum of six months in jail.

That's quite a significant point of confusion by a then-U.S. Attorney who is now the Governor of New Jersey. It also reveals two RINO issues regarding Chris Christie.

First, as I presented in an earlier column about how Christie embraced a radical Muslim in order to win favor with the Muslim voting community, he'll say what he thinks the people he's talking to want to hear so they'll like him.

Second, in a state where illegal aliens cost the state billions of dollars and where the capital city of Trenton (among many others) is a Sanctuary City, Christie's presented less than enthusiastic concern about illegal aliens give cause to be concerned about his intentions on addressing the issue.

More to come.
